Race Categories
Women's Crew: Maximum 20 paddlers, 1 drummer, 1 steersperson, 4 spares and 1 non-racing manager All paddlers & the drummer must be female.
Mixed Crew: Maximum 20 paddlers consisting of a minimum of 8 male and 8 female paddlers, 1 drummer and 1 steersperson of either gender, 4 spares and 1 non-racing manager
Breast Cancer Crew: Maximum 20 paddlers, 1 drummer, 1 steersperson, 4 spares and 1 non-racing manager. All paddlers must have been diagnosed with breast cancer; however, drummer and steersperson do not need to meet this criterion.
Youth Crew Maximum 20 paddlers, 1 drummer, 1 steersperson (the proceeding two positions can be adults), 4 spares and 1 non-racing manager (over 18). Ages 12 to 17

Rules of Racing
- Race Dates: June 26 and 27, 2010 from 8 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m.
- Races are held at Henderson Lake.
- Crews should check in 1 hour before their first scheduled race.
- All crews will race a minimum of three races: two races on Day 1 and at least one race on Day 2.
- Crews moving on to the finals will race at least one additional race on Day 2.
- Awards will be given in each final category as well as the Community Mixed and Community Women's Crew Races
- Dragonboats, PFDs and paddles will be provided.
- PFDs must be worn at all times while in the competition area.
- Crew personal PFDs must be Coast Guard or UL approved and must be approved by Race Director prior to each race
- Crew paddles must be standard dragonboat paddles and meet the IDBF regulations and must be approved by Race Director prior to each race.
Race Starts
- Races will be a Standing Start. The starter calls the boats to the top of the start box.
- Crews may be asked to align the boats as necessary.
- All boats are asked to "HOLD HARD".
- The Starter will call "ARE YOU READY". At this time the drummer may put their hand above their head if the crew is not ready to race.
- The Starter will call "ATTENTION" or "ATTENTION PLEASE". Paddles will be up or buried and the entire crew needs to be in thier final position at this time. A penalty may be assessed if there is movement that would cause a jumped or false start.
- "GO" (electronic sounding device, horn will sound.
- WHITE FLAG: indicates a clean start.
- RED FLAG: indicates a false start (used by the Starter and the chase boat located at the 50m mark).
- In the event of a false start, the starter will call "STOP" STOP" "STOP" and/or a second blast of the horn. The chase boat on the 50m mark will move in front of the boats and wave the red flag if necessary.
These rules and regulations are subject to change.
Please note: Adjustments to race course, times, race schedule and cancellation of race heats may occur due to a number of circumstances including weather, daylight, water conditions, safety, etc. These adjustments are a part of the event and are at the sole discretion of the Race Officials and are final, without appeal and without refund. |
